Proud moment for all in Basketball

Inductee Robertson: 'we just did it'
SHANE HURNDELL |

Hawke's Bay basketball legend Di Robertson struggled to comprehend the attitudes of those in the next generation.

The former Tall Ferns captain who represented New Zealand from 1978-84 remembers when she was coaching Hawke's Bay's BP Bears national women's league side from 1992-'94.
"I couldn't come to terms with players not being at training. That wasn't heard of in our day," Robertson told SportToday.

Bartercard & Hawks do it for Brain Injury NZ

Last night Bartercard Hawke's Bay hosted a "family friendly" After 5
function where our clients brought along their kiddies so they could
meet their favourite Hawks player. OK, some of us ladies rather enjoyed
it too! Thanks to you all for attending - it was a pleasure to have you
along and great that so many of you took advantage of the opportunity to
bring your kiddies along.

The evening kicked off with a speech from the Hawks Coach - Shawn Dennis
- who also coaches the New Zealand Tall Ferns. Sadly, Hawkes Bay and

Hawks do expected over poor Nuggets

The cover of the match programme makes a reference to the "Midas touch".

It was a stretch of the imagination but 0800 Easy LPG Hawks head coach Shawn Dennis is satisfied his troops achieved their pre-game goals against the Otago Nuggets in their 102-67 victory in Napier on Friday night.

"We had everything to lose and they had nothing to lose.

HOMEGROWN: Paul Henare will provide impetus on and off the bench tonight. In a few hours, Paul Henare will be going through the motions at his favourite venue, the Pettigrew-Green Arena in Napier.

The 0800 Easy LPG Hawks guard has graced myriad venues in exotic locations around the world, but there's an inexplicable magnetism with the Taradale arena that other locations fail to match.

It's the same affinity a person has when returning from foreign destinations to familiar surroundings.

Bad news very bad news for NZNBL.......

Basketball Australia has released the schedule for the 2010/11 National Basketball League season, with the Sydney Kings scheduled to make their highly-anticipated return to the NBL on the same day the competition begins play on Friday 15 October.

The Kings, who will return to the NBL after a two-year absence, will face long-time rivals the Melbourne Tigers on the road in a classic Sydney-Melbourne confrontation on Opening Night at the State Netball Hockey Centre (AKA ‘The Cage’).

PLAY-OFF FREQUENCY: Shawn Dennis. When the 12-and-zip Otago Nuggets grace any court for the remaining National Basketball League season the biggest test for opposition players must be to keep their emotions in check.

The roll in their swagger, no doubt, will be accentuated.

The itch to execute alley-oops, dunks or impress the home crowd with one's dribbling skills will prove to be irresistible.

How do they choose player of the week???

I am confused because I don't understand how either Josh Pace or Corey Webster did not receive player of the week after their performances in the game last week between the Heat and the Hawks in which each did all they could to win the game for their teams in a high pressured contest. They hit 38 and 40 points respectively. Pace in particular was in outstanding form and extremely efficient hitting 14 of 15 shots, snaring 6 rebounds and handing out 6 assists. This helped the Hawks to an outstanding road win and kept their chances of a home quarter final alive.

Trying to be professional in an amateur league

It is a tough ask for teams to demand a professional level of performance from players and coaches when so many other aspects of the league are not put under the same scrutiny. In this world where you are paid to perform as a player and coach you lose your job if results are not up to scratch. This season there has been a number of import changes and I am confidant there would have been more if teams had the financial resources to do so.

WIN

Hawks exact sweet revenge
ANENDRA SINGH | 22nd May 2010

It's unforgivable to let a team come to your turf, kick your butt and hit the highway with valuable championship points.

The only way for the trodden side to ease that pain is to go to their slayers' digs and dish out the same treatment.

The 0800 Easy LPG Hawks did exactly that last night when they defeated Harbour Heat 102-97 at the North Shore Events Centre, after losing to them in the first round in Napier.
