HAWKS / IN THE COMMUNITY

Big Barrel Hawks in the Community

For the Big Barrel Hawks, community isn’t just a tagline — it’s at the heart of everything we do. Guided by our values of Kotahitanga (Unity), Pono (Honesty), Hiranga (Excellence), Pāuaua (Determined), and Ahu (Disciplined), we’re committed to giving back, building connections, and creating a legacy that goes beyond basketball.

Hawks in Schools

Our regional, grassroots programme is all about inspiring the next generation. Every year, our players and coaches deliver more than 40 school and community visits across Hawke’s Bay — all completely free.

Skills clinics, fun games, and high-energy visits help tamariki build confidence and dream big.

Kobe Kara and the Big Barrel Hawks, proud to work to inspire our tamariki.

We give away over 1,000 tickets to Hawks home games, helping reduce barriers for local whānau to experience the action.

It’s not just about hoops — it’s about leadership, inclusion, and showing our rangatahi they belong.

Hawks in the Community

From giveaways to grassroots tournaments and local events, the Hawks are proud to represent Hawke’s Bay.

You’ll find us supporting youth tournaments, turning up to community events, and backing regional initiatives — often alongside our valued partners.

We take the Hawks on the road too, hosting an annual preseason game and kids’ clinic in either Central Hawke’s Bay or Wairoa.

Wherever you’re from in Te Matau-a-Māui, the Hawks are your team.
