The Big Barrel Hawke’s Bay Hawks have strengthened their frontcourt with the signing of American forward Jeremy McLaughlin. Joining them in time for Thursday night’s home game against the Canterbury Rams at the “Nest” Rodney Green Arenas.
McLaughlin joins the Hawks as a 6’7” power forward with a strong professional background across multiple international leagues. He most recently played in Slovakia and has also built experience in Argentina, Australia, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia and Greece.
A graduate of Catawba College, McLaughlin developed a reputation as an efficient interior presence during his senior season, shooting 63.0 percent from the field while averaging 6.4 rebounds per game.
For the Hawks, his arrival adds size, physicality and versatility at the four spot, giving the group another experienced option in the frontcourt as the season builds.
Hawks Head Coach Will Lopez said McLaughlin’s profile fits what the club was looking for.
“Jeremy gives us size, toughness and a real presence in the frontcourt. He’s a guy who can rebound, defend, run the floor and bring energy on both ends. We think he’ll complement this group well and give us another strong option at the four.”
General Manager Jarrod Kenny said the signing was about adding a player who can make an immediate impact.
“Jeremy is a proven professional who has played in a range of strong competitions around the world. He brings experience, physicality and a team-first approach, and we’re excited to welcome him to Hawke’s Bay. We know our fans will appreciate the way he competes.”
McLaughlin now joins the Big Barrel Hawks as the side continues to build depth, balance and presence around the paint.
