Jacob Murphy Returns to the Hawke’s Bay Hawks for NBL 2025

The Hawke’s Bay Hawks are proud to announce the re-signing of Jacob Murphy for the 2025 Sal’s National Basketball League (NBL) season. A skilled guard and a rehular of the Hawks’ backcourt, Murphy brings a combination of experience, determination, and local pride to the team.

Murphy has been with the Hawks since 2021, earning his place as a reliable and dynamic player in both the Sal’s NBL and the Sky Broadband Rapid League. Known for his ability to create plays, knock down crucial shots, and hustle on defense, Murphy’s return will provide consistency and leadership as the Hawks look to build on their success in 2025.

In addition to his on-court commitments, Murphy is also working full-time as he completes his plumbing apprenticeship with Advanced Plumbing. Balancing the demands of professional basketball and a trade apprenticeship is no small feat, and Murphy’s dedication reflects his strong work ethic both on and off the court.

Hawks General Manager Jarrod Kenny shared his appreciation for Murphy’s contributions, “Jacob has been a vital part of the Hawks over the past several years. His ability to manage his career and his apprenticeship is a testament to his commitment and drive. We’re thrilled to have him back for another season and can’t wait to see what he achieves in 2025.”

Head Coach Sam Gruggen emphasised Murphy’s importance to the team, “Jacob is a key piece of what we’re building here at the Hawks. His athleticism, high motor and attacking style help put the team on the front foot. He’s a great example for younger players, showing that hard work pays off, whether it’s on the court or in life.”

Jacob Murphy, excited for another year with the Hawks, said, “Playing for Hawke’s Bay means everything to me. It’s a privilege to represent my community while also pursuing my career as a plumber. I’m grateful for the support of the Hawks, my teammates, and Advanced Plumbing, and I’m looking forward to making 2025 a special season.”

With Murphy’s return, the Hawks strengthen their commitment to showcasing players who embody the team’s values and contribute to the local community.

Murphy now joins Jackson Ball on the Hawks 2025 team. Season memberships are available now, and tickets for individual games will be released soon. Fans are encouraged to secure their seats at Rodney Green Arenas to catch Murphy and the Hawks in action during the exciting 2025 season.
