Swaka Lo Buluk: Final Feather in the Big Barrel Hawks’ Roster

The Hawke’s Bay Hawks are thrilled to announce the signing of Australian forward Wani Swaka Lo Buluk, completing their roster for the 2025 Sal’s National Basketball League (NBL) season. At 23 years old, Swaka Lo Buluk brings a wealth of experience, including three NBL championships, and becomes the third player to join the Big Barrel Hawks from the Illawarra Hawks, following Luca Yates and Dan Grida.

Born in Sudan and raised in Perth Australia, Swaka Lo Buluk began his Australian NBL career with the Perth Wildcats in 2018. Over three seasons, he contributed to two championship victories. He later joined the Sydney Kings, adding a third championship in 2022. In May 2022, he signed with the Illawarra Hawks where he has spent the past three seasons. Notably, this season he was a finalist for the ANBL’s Defensive Player of the Year award.

Hawks General Manager Jarrod Kenny expressed enthusiasm about Swaka Lo Buluk’s addition. “Wani’s defensive abilites will give us a solid platform to build off. Combined with his championship experience he’ll be a valuable leader in our group and will set the tone of the team. We can’t wait for him to arrive in Hawke’s Bay at the conclusion of the Illawarra season.”

Head Coach Sam Gruggen added. “Having coached Wani this season, I know the energy and passion he brings. His leadership and defence will be instrumental as we build towards a successful season.”

Swaka Lo Buluk shared his excitement about joining the Hawks.“I’m eager to start this new chapter with the Hawke’s Bay Hawks. The team’s vision aligns with my aspirations, and I can’t wait to connect with the fans and contribute to our success.”

With the addition of Swaka Lo Buluk, the Hawks roster is now complete. He joins team mates Dan Grida, Luca Yates, Darnell Cowart, Campbell Scott, Lennox Singh, Isaac Allan, Maz Taylor, Kobe Kara, Harry Keighley, Ezrah Eagle, Clifton Bush III, Jacob Murphy and Jackson Ball on the 2025 Hawks roster.
